Nestling at the foot of the rolling South Downs near Chichester and surrounded by countryside you will find our bakery. It’s here we hand make and bake our delicious breads, pastries, cakes and most importantly our damn good brownies, not only for our own café and food shop, but also for lots of other local foodie establishments.
We are constantly developing new recipes and are proud that several of our breads have received national awards, including Gold Taste Awards and Triptree World Bread Awards.
There are 4 basic ingredients in our loaves: flour, water, salt and in some slow dough recipes, the occasional tiny bit of fresh yeast to boost the natural leavens in the rising of the dough. Never any improvers, preservatives, enhancers or E-numbers. Every batch has its own recipe and is hand crafted from scratch.
The loaves are left to slowly and naturally ferment, generally overnight, until ready to be baked on the stone sole of the oven. The resulting sourdough and slow dough loaves are nutritious, easily digestible and have a long natural shelf life – that is if you can resist eating them!
You will also find us regularly selling our breads & patisserie goodies at farmers markets, country fairs and events in the south including at the wonderful Weald & Downland Open Air Museum at nearby Singleton.
