It is fair to say that most of us will have overindulged over the festive period, after all there is always “just one more” mince pie, slice of cheese or chocolate to be eaten! Like us we are sure you have now banished thoughts of cream and butter, alcohol and other treats to the back of your mind – healthier eating and a “new you” is at the forefront of your thinking!
Some people can find this a real challenge, especially for people that just love food but there are some very simple steps you can take that can make a difference without having to feel you are making too much of a compromise or missing out. You can switch from white bread to loaves made with spelt flour, our Spelt & Honey loaf is delicious toasted and don’t be fooled by the honey, it works well with savoury dishes too! Basing your meals on starchy foods such as bread, potatoes and pasta is also a simple move. Wholegrains and potatoes with their skins on contain lots of fibre, vitamins and minerals.
Cutting down on sugar and fat can often seem harder, particularly after weeks of eating lots of them. You can replace saturated fats from butter, pastries, cream, pies and cheese (which can increase your blood cholesterol levels) with unsaturated fats found in vegetable oils, nuts, seeds, oily fish and avocados. Try replacing jam on buttered toast with a mashed up avocado on a slice of our 5 Seed Sour Dough Bread. A great way to start the day, much healthier and just as delicious.
