Great British Beef Week 2024 runs from 23rd – 30th April. A nationwide campaign now in its 14th year, Great British Beef Week aims to celebrate the fantastic quality beef produced in this country, as well as supporting and championing the butchers, farmers, food establishments and farm shops alike who sell it.
To mark the occasion, we caught up with Gavin, Manager at The Hungry Guest Butcher to find out all about the beef proudly stocked in-store.
Can you share with us some information about where The Hungry Guest beef comes from?
We buy traditional UK breeds from farms in West Sussex & Hampshire that are grass-fed. My favourite breed is Belted Galloway
Can you tell us what the most popular cuts of beef are amongst The Hungry Guest Butcher customers?
The most popular steak is rib eye with the Hungry Guest customers. But our minced and diced beef is very popular and the product that people try first before becoming a regular customer.
What cut of beef would you recommend to somebody looking to try something different?
Bavette steak is a versatile cut of meat equally amazing grilled or braised, hot, or cold plus the price is right.
For those who aren’t familiar with buying their meat from a butcher, what do you wish you could tell them about why they should instead of buying it at a supermarket?
We buy whole beef carcass aged on the bone and cut and grind fresh daily. Our prime steaks are aged in our dry ageing cabinet which helps develop flavour and improves the texture. Using the butchers is a bespoke experience where you can buy any cut you want at the desired portion size.
